About the Product

  • Punica granatum, or pomegranate, is a plant that bears red fruit.
  • The pomegranate fruit is classified as a berry and measures 5–12 cm (2–5 inches) in diameter. It's crimson, circular, and has a flower-shaped stem, similar to a red apple.
  • The pomegranate's skin is thick and inedible, yet inside are hundreds of edible seeds. Each seed is encased in an aril, which is a scarlet, juicy, and tasty seed covering.
  • The edible parts of the fruit are the seeds and arils, which can be eaten raw or processed into pomegranate juice, but the peel is discarded.

Health Benefits Of Eating Pomegranate

  • The pomegranate is a fruit with hundreds of arils, which are edible seeds. They're packed with fiber, vitamins, minerals, and beneficial plant chemicals, but they're also high in sugar.
  • Punicalagins and punicic acid, two unique compounds found in pomegranates, are responsible for the majority of its health advantages.
  • Pomegranate juice's punicalagins have been demonstrated to reduce inflammation, which is one of the primary causes of many major diseases, including cancer and diabetes.
  • Pomegranate juice may be beneficial to men with prostate cancer, possibly reducing cancer growth and lowering the risk of death, according to preliminary research.
  • Pomegranate extract appears to help fight breast cancer cells in the lab, but further research in humans is needed.
  • Pomegranate juice has been demonstrated to reduce blood pressure in as little as two weeks when consumed regularly.

Storage and Uses

  • Pomegranates have a comparable shelf life to apples. They should be kept out of direct sunlight in a cool, dry, well-ventilated environment. Whole fruit can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two months. Fresh seeds or juice will last up to 5 days in the refrigerator.
  • Arils from pomegranates can be frozen for later use. To freeze the arils, spread them out on a baking sheet lined with wax paper in a single layer.
  • Freeze for no more than 2 hours before transferring to a moisture-proof, vapor-proof freezer bag or container for storage. Return the frozen food to the freezer and use within a year.

Nutritious Value Of Pomegranate

Pomegranates have an impressive nutrient profile — one cup of arils (174 grams) contains (2):

  • Fiber: 7 grams
  • Protein: 3 grams
  • Vitamin C: 30% of the RDI
  • Vitamin K: 36% of the RDI
